Day 106
Published:
Today was a great day. The climb out of camp brought us into a cloud. The fog never turned to rain, fortunately breaking at half past ten. The trail consisted entirely of extremely steep up and down, with many sections exceeding 1,000 feet per mile. We pushed hard all morning to get most of the climbing done and reach the beautiful Mirror Lake for lunch and a dip.
Motivated by the pizza and beer awaiting us, we powered towards Snoqualamie Pass after lunch. The walking was easy and, at the end, truly beautiful for the first time all day. A shortcut through the ski area and someone’s backyard brought us to Lee’s for resupply and Pie For The People for pizza. My pizza, a whopping 21” of marinara, mozzarella, soft goat cheese, chopped garlic, Italian sausage, and prosciutto, is the best I have have had on trail and probably among the best I have had in my life. No kidding. I’m packing out the half I couldn’t eat for a glorious first night dinner. We ate at the brewery, where we planned our alternate route off of the PCT to hit the legendary Goldmyer Hot Springs.
We hitched to the Snow Lake trailhead with the first car that came by and, given that it was way past bedtime and the trail was a steep three mile climb up to the lake, we took our chances stealth camping in the Snoqualamie Pass ski resort parking lot. An excellent day, and tomorrow a very exciting side trip, one I have been looking forward to ever since I learned about Goldmyer in southern Oregon.
